Larry Ewashen,
Curator of The Doukhobor Discovery Centre, has recently been the
guest of the Lieutenant Governor at Government House in Victoria.
He was invited, along with other historic
site workers ‘in recognition of your contribution to Heritage
Conservation in British Columbia.’

He had a pleasant
conversation with Iona Campagnolo, who spoke warmly of her two
visits to the Doukhobor Museum and also mentioned that she had
officiated at the opening of the Vancouver Peace Symposium,
which featured a large Doukhobor Choir at the opening.
"I really feel at home with these people", she
said and offered her congratulations on the wonderful museum
which illustrates the Doukhobor history in Canada.
"It is the efforts of people such as yourselves that
leave a legacy for the citizens of tomorrow", she emphasized
during the opening of the reception. |
"This evening we salute you and
thank you for carefully protecting and fostering examples of our
Nation’s deep, ancient and near-past and our multi-ethnic
cultural heritage through helping all of us to understand and appreciate
our heritage. In my experience, Canada is an ever-changing panoply
of perceptions".
Officials from the National Historic
Sites and Monuments Board were also present, and Mr. Ewashen
had an opportunity to discuss some of the important historic nominations
currently under way in Castlegar.
