'Shaking' it up at the DVM
Back to News
The major project this year, besides the ongoing policy of new exhibits yearly which are being prepared, is the replacement of the shake roofs at the museum. A new roof has already been done at the Village Bistro, which is gearing up for its summer opening.

However, the most significant upgrade is being done on the main museum buildings as part of its 35th anniversary. The shakes on both major buildings are being replaced, an initiative which was spurred on by a major grant of $25,000 from the City of Castlegar.

Since that time, fund raising has been continuing to raise the balance required of more than twice that amount. Although the Doukhobor Village Museum serves the entire area, so far requests for assistance to the RDCK has fallen on deaf ears. The board and patrons of the Village still hope that some assistance will be provided by our Regional District.

This important and timely maintenance is a rare occasion, as the shakes being installed are guaranteed for fifty years. A timely project which will stand the test of time! The work is being carried out by Len Richards Roofing of Nelson.
