| Doukhobor Museum Moves to Preserve Priceless Artefacts - January 2006 | Back

January 7, 2007 To our community partners: The Doukhobor Discovery Centre is presently embarked on saving its collection of some 100 implements. Many of these implements are 100 years old, and mostly due to wood rot, must be restored as soon as possible while the original patterns exit. Many of these were primary in the settlement of the west, both in Saskatchewan and in British Columbia. Some were rescued from the flood areas.
The primary requirement is to cement the floor to prepare a firm foundation. Secondly, a slightly heightened runway must be cemented along three sides at an elevation of about one foot. This area will provide a pedestal for the implements suitable for viewing, and lastly for interpretative labelling. Once this ‘pedestal’ is complete, newly restored implements will be set up and labelled in this protected space. The total cost of this project will be about $50,000. As we are a community resource, serving our district and area, we hope to make this particular project a community one, with input from many of the major players in the area. If you belong to an institution which can help, please get in touch with us and we will provide a complete information package with budget, past history and full details. If you are an individual would like to make a donation of $25.00 or more a receipt will be provided for a tax deduction. Appropriate credit will be posted. We appreciate your consideration in helping us. Larry A. Ewashen, Curator |
