Recession or not, the Doukhobor Discovery Centre is pleased to announce that July attendance was the highest ever in the history of the museum. ‘Perhaps the recession is helping us, with people travelling shorter distances for their pleasure trips. The chief factor, I think, is the prominence we’ve achieved nationally and internationally, about the Doukhobor settlement of the area, and the holistic nature of the Doukhobor message’, says Curator Larry Ewashen.

Pictured here are two of the summer employees, Keely O’Doherty and Melia Campos, in front of a rebuilt buggy once used by Peter Verigin on visits between the various villages.

"It is the best place in the area! ~ First class museum & exhibits ~ Impressive but tragic that the communal life didn’t last ~ This is a truly spiritual place ~ Thank you for sharing this part of your culture ~ It was lovely to connect with Castlegar history! ~ This is a beautiful place, so special, thank you! ~ Terrific host, great museum!"

The above were some of the comments from the guest book.

In addition to regular daily tourists this summer has seen the highest number of bus tours in the history of the Centre, including buses from China, Germany and several from the states, as well as the western provinces. While facilitating tourists is the first consideration, the summer staff has also been busy in various upgrading and restoration projects.
