A
certificate for contribution for the selection of 150 moments
of British Columbia history has been presented to Larry
A. Ewashen, Curator of the Doukhobor Discovery Centre.
The document thanks Larry Ewashen for his contribution
to the selection of 150 Moments to be commemorated
by engraved stones on the grounds of the Parliament Buildings.
It is signed by the Honourable Bill Barisoff,
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and comes from the Legislative
Assembly of British Columbia.
The
moment in question is the arrival of the Doukhobors to British
Columbia in 1908.
After
several years of dedicated effort, Mr. Ewashen was successful
in having this migration declared an Event of National Importance
and the leader of the Doukhobors, Peter V. Verigin, declared
as a Person of National Historic Significance.
This
recognition by the Historical Sites and Monuments Board
was instrumental in the consideration of this migration for
one of the 150 moments of British Columbia history.
