The Museum Board is highly
appreciative of your coverage of our Annual Report to City
Council. The paper has been highly supportive of the museum
over the past number of years through professional reportage
of events and other aspects of the operation of the museum.
The past article is open to misinterpretation, so I would
like to clarify a few points.
We do not mean to intimate the museum is in any danger
of closing.
Should the Board dissolve and the museum assets become
property of the city, I am sure the city would find ways
of keeping this valuable community asset in operation.
It is quite apparent that of the various tourist attractions
to the area the museum is in the forefront and allowing
it’s demise would require a critical lapse of judgement.
Further, the article is not clear that the pending resignation
is scheduled a year hence, following the next tourist season.
This allows for prudent planning regarding the succession
of the position and the future of the museum.
The point "we are victims of our own success",
(not of our demise) is meant to illustrate that future operation
of the museum will require a significant increase in number
of paid staff.
Thank you for accepting this clarification.
