The
Doukhobor Discovery Centre has completed its 38th
season, and is pleased to report its highest attendance,
sales and revenue to date. Visitors attended from
a total of 73 different states, provinces and countries.
With the close of the season, two new signs have been
erected at the turn-in to the Centre. |

The
first one announces the opening dates and times for
the convenience of tourists. The other sign completes
the roadside turn in with the installation of the
final panel, which reads: Welcome to Ootishenie,
The Valley of Consolation, Toil and Peaceful Life.
The art work is contributed by well known artist,
George Koochin. |
This
area was named Ootishenie by Peter V. Verigin in 1908 in
the belief that the Doukhobors would find consolation in
their new found home after the 1907 cancellation of their
homestead entries in Saskatchewan.
The Centre is currently preparing
exhibits for the 2010 season and continues with sales in
the Village Gallery, most notably the 2010 calendar and
the Psalmist Project.
